PHYSICAL EDUCATION INFORMATION
Dear Parents and/or Guardians,
Hi! The Physical Education (P.E.) department would like to take this time to introduce ourselves to you and to let you know a few things about P.E. for this year. We have 4 coaches in the P.E. department: Coach Gould, Coach Myers, Coach Grace and Coach Billie Sue. Several of our activities and exercises this year will include “The Mile Club”, soccer, basketball, tennis, wiffle ball, kick ball, lacrosse, cooperative teamwork activities, station activities that will focus on strength, stretching and fitness/cardio and the Alabama Physical Fitness test for 2nd through 4th grades. We will also be planning a Field day for the spring and you will receive more information on that later.
Please be aware of the following guidelines for physical education:
1. If your child is unable to participate in (needs to be excused from) physical activities, please write a note and have your child bring it to P.E. class. A parent note will be good for up to 3 days. If your child needs to be excused from P.E. for a longer period of time, a doctor’s note will need to be provided.
2. If a doctor limits physical education participation, please ask them to give specific information regarding the amount of activity, what your child can/cannot do, and when he/she is able to fully participate in class.
3. Tennis shoes are required EVERY DAY in P.E. If a student consistently forgets tennis shoes, points will be deducted from his/her P.E. grade.
4. Shorts are to be worn under skirts or dresses.
If your child has any medical condition that will LIMIT his/her participation in PE, or that we need to be aware of (Asthma, diabetes, seizures, disabilities, etc) please contact the school nurse to fill out medical paperwork.
Grades in PE will be based on participation. Points will be deducted for the following behaviors:
- Inappropriate shoes
- Talking during instruction
- Not using equipment properly
- Throwing rocks, dirt or grass
- Not following PE rules
- Not telling the truth/cheating
- Disrespectful to PE teachers
- Disrespectful to other students
- Not in line or on square in gym when told to
- Pushing/kicking/bullying/hands on others
- Inappropriate words/name calling
- Hitting or fighting
We look forward to working with your child this year!
