• ABBOTT AND FENNER SCHOLARSHIP
      UPDATED 8-11-22. JUNIORS AND SENIORS CAN APPLY FOR THIS SCHOLARSHIP. Deadline to apply is June 10, 2023. Scholarship amount is $1,000. There is no application to apply--just send an e-mail to scholarships@abbottandfenner.com and write a 500-1,000 word essay on the topic "Describe your educational career and life goals. Explain your plan for achieving these goals. Include your degree/major, why you selected it, and how this degree/major will help you achieve your goals."     • AMERICAN LEGION NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL ORATORICAL CONTEST
      POSTED 10-17-17. High school students under the age of 20 are encouraged to compete in the Alabama American Legion Oratorical Contest. The Department of Alabama will award three state scholarships in the amounts of $2,000, $3,000, and $5,000. One state winner will advance to the national oratorical contest.       UPDATED 8-11-22. JUNIORS, SENIORS, AND COLLEGE STUDENTS CAN APPLY. Deadline to apply is May 21, 2023. Award amount is $1,000. Discuss why you believe that these traits are so important and how you feel that they are developed in an individual."     • DENNY'S HUNGRY FOR EDUCATION

      POSTED 8-26-17. Applications will be available from September 1, 2017-December 31, 2017. Deadline to apply will be in early 2018. There are numerous scholarships offered with varying award amounts. A minimum 2.5 GPA is required. Applicants must submit a 300-word essay on how Denny's can impact childhood hunger in their communities. Visit the website link for more information and/or to apply.

    • DISTINGUISHED YOUNG WOMEN

      POSTED 1-31-23. ELEVENTH GRADE FEMALE STUDENTS ARE ELIGIBLE. Distinguished Young Women is a national scholarship program for high school girls. The Lee County chapter of DYM awarded over $6,000 in scholarships in 2022. Females in 11th grade and their parents are encouraged to attend a one-hour informational meeting on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. at the Opelika Chamber of Commerce (601 Avenue A, Opelika, AL 36801) to learn more about the program.     • EAST ALABAMA MEDICAL CENTER

      POSTED 2-27-17. STUDENTS IN GRADES 8-11 CAN APPLY. Deadline to return completed applications to Mrs. Owen is April 7, 2017. If you are a student in Grades 8-11 and are considering a career in the healthcare field, you are encouraged to apply to become a Teenage Volunteer at East Alabama Medical Center (EAMC). Students must have transportation to and from EAMC during the 2017-2018 school year and purchase a set of scrubs for the TAV uniform.     • KOHL'S CARES SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

      UPDATED 9-1-14. Nomination form will be available from January 30, 2015 until March 13, 2015. Any student, ages 6-18, that has volunteered his/her time in the community in the past 12 months can be nominated. Award amounts range from $50 gift cards to $10,000 scholarships. Employees of Kohl's and/or their children are not eligible to participate. Anyone over the age of 21 can nominate you. Visit the website link above for more information.

    • LEE COUNTY YOUNG LEADERS PROGRAM

      SOPHOMORES MEETING THE REQUIREMENTS ARE ELIGIBLE TO BE SELECTED. Sophomore students who have at least a 3.0 GPA, no discipline for the current school year, and no more than five (5) absences for the current school year will receive an application. Two (2) students will be chosen by the Lee County Chamber of Commerce to be our school representatives for the 2017-2018 school year. Those two students will attend monthly meetings and participate in service projects. Absences from school due to LCYL activities will be school-excused. The students must provide their own transportation to and from activities.

    • NICHE.COM SCHOLARSHIP
      POSTED 8-19-18. Applications will be accepted from August 1, 2018 until August 31, 2018. A $2,000 "No Essay" scholarship is available. Visit the website link to apply.

    • PROFILE IN COURAGE ESSAY CONTEST
      POSTED 10-17-17. Deadline to submit essays is January 4, 2018. Awards range from $100 to $10,000. Students in Grades 9-12 are eligible to apply. Past winners/finalists and children of John Hancock are not eligible to apply. The subject of the essay must be a US elected official who served during or after 1917. Students are encouraged to choose an original subject and tell a story that has not yet been told. Essays must be between 700 and 1,000 words and include a bibliography of at least five varied, reliable sources. John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, and Edward M.     • PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARD

      POSTED 10-25-16. Deadline to apply is November 8, 2016. All students in grades 5-12 are encouraged to apply for the 2017 Prudential Spirit of Community Award if you have participated in a volunteer service activity in the past year. One student will be selected from Grades 7-8 and one student will be selected from Grades 9-12. State winners receive $1,000 and all all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C.     • RURAL HEALTH SCHOLARS PROGRAM--THE UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA

      POSTED 12-15-16. FOR JUNIORS ONLY. Deadline to submit applications to Mrs. Owen is March 8, 2017. The Rural Health Scholars Program is open to all juniors who are interested in the medical field and possess at least a 3.0 GPA and a 21 ACT score. The program is a five-week summer program that includes tuition, room, and meals. There is no cost to attend if you are selected. An application, two letters of recommendation (one from the counselor and one from an English, math, or science teacher orthe principal), and a typed essay are required.     • THE "NO SWEAT" SCHOLARSHIP
      POSTED 8-31-21. Deadline to apply is September 30, 2021. Additional deadlines should be announced for December 31, March 31, and June 30. A $2,500 scholarship will be awarded.     • UPWARD BOUND

      NINTH, TENTH, AND *ELEVENTH* GRADE STUDENTS CAN APPLY. Upward Bound is a TRiO program managed by Tuskegee University for students planning to attend college. Applications are accepted for 9th and 10th grade students. *11th grade students can apply only up until the end of the 1st 9-weeks grading period of their 11th grade year. A minimum 2.5 GPA is required and priority is given to first generation and/or low-income students. Students will attend sessions on Tuskegee University's campus 2-3 Saturday's per month from 9:00-1:15. An all expenses paid six-week summer session is included. Students are paid a stipend if they remain in the program and complete the requirements. Students who remain in the program until high school graduation may qualify for up to six hours of college expenses including tuition, fees, books, and room/board. See Mrs. Owen for an application.
