• Sixth Grade Physical Education Discipline Plan

    Mission Statement:

    The goal of the physical education program at ESSES is to provide students with a basic foundation of motor and manipulative skills, and understanding of the importance of physical fitness and the opportunity to develop effective personal and social skills. Students will be provided with the skills necessary to make decisions about physical activity for their own health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression and social interaction. Our goal is to promote a positive learning environment that meets the needs and abilities of students and encourages them to maintain a physically active lifestyle.

     Purpose of Plan:

    The purpose of this plan, above all else, is to ensure the safety of the children at ESSES. The plan also promotes student involvement and participation in the physical education classroom. This plan enforces both positive and negative consequences based on the behaviors and actions of the students. The objective of the physical education department is 100% participation from all students.

    Rules and Procedures

    Upon entering and locating their areas in the gym, the students are expected to do so in an appropriate manner. We ask that the students:

    1.      sit cross-legged

    2.      be in a straight line

    3.      enter quietly

    While the students are at P.E., the will be held to the same high standards that are expected and stated in the 6 Keys to Successful Learning. The keys are:

    1.      I can and I will follow all school rules the first time I am asked by the staff of ESSES.

    2.      I can and I will RESPECT ALL people. I can do good deeds and say good things.

    3.      I can and I will ask permission to speak or to leave my seat.

    4.      I can and I will be prepared for class (shoes) and do my best at all times.

    5.      I can and I will walk quietly from place to place in a straight line.

    6.      I can and I will tell the truth at all times.

    Consequences

    Positive
    Students that follow the rules and procedures will be allowed to participate in all activities and free play.

    Negative
    Students that choose not to follow the rules and procedures will have their behaviors corrected by using the following system of consequences.

    1.      Warning

    2.      Write 1 page report pertaining to physical education and 5 points deducted from grade.

    3.      No free play on Friday (station rotation exercises) and 5 points deducted from grade.

    4.      Parent contact/conference and 5 points deducted from grade.

    5.      Office referral and 5 points deducted from grade.

    **In the event of a major/intermediate infraction, the Coaches may need to skip directly to an office referral and a deduction of 25 points will be taken off of the students’ grade.

     Extracurricular Activities

    Students will not be allowed to participate in extracurricular activities if they do not demonstrate the correct behaviors in physical education. An office referral will automatically prohibit a student from participating in the next extracurricular activity scheduled. Below shows what will keep a student from participating in the extracurricular activities.

    Kickball Tournament-                                     Grade of 79 or below 

    Spring Olympics-                                             Grade of 79 or below 

    Beta Club/Beta Club Activities-                      Grade of 92 or below 

    6th Grade Dance-                                             Office Referral                       

    Positive Behavior Activities-                           Grade of 79 or below 

    **Students may be prohibited from other extracurricular activities that are not listed as a disciplinary action as well.
