Internet Safety
Parents, please check your child's social media friends list. Item #4 is proving to be very difficult for them to discern on their own.
Be SAFE Online
Students work on desktop computers, Chromebooks, tablets, and Ipads at Bg.E.S. Some of us play games on our parent's phones at home. Learning on technology is fun! It can also be dangerous. To ensure students stay safe while learning on computers, we discuss the following items twice a year, Oct. & April.
- Trusted adults should be close by when we are on the Internet.
- If a picture that is ugly or scary pops on the screen we tell an adult. We know it is not our fault and telling a trusted adult is the best choice. The adult can get the picture off the computer or get help to get it off.
- We never share personal information while on a computer. Personal information is your name, address, phone number, name of school, birthday...Anything about you and your family.
- Friends are people we know from school, family, church, the ball field, or dance. We do not talk to people we have never met on a phone or computer. The goal is keeping in touch with friends not having lots of friends. Some students will accept friend request from people they don't know just to have a high friend count. If you do not know the person in real life they are NOT your friend. DELETE people you don't know! Your settings on social media should allow your information to be visible only to your real friends.
- Healthy bodies like different activities so never stay at the computer for over 30 minutes.
- Mean messages are not okay to send or receive on a phone or computer. Tell a trusted adult if this happens. This is called Cyberbullying and law enformcement can solve these crimes.
